A Few of My Favorite Things

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up in string, these are a few of my favorite things.

Is that not the catchiest tune ever sung by Julie Andrews? Love it.

This post was inspired by Laura of  Riddle from the Middle. I love to hear about the simple things that brings joy to other people.  Without further ado, here are some of my creature comforts.

The sound of flip flops.  It conjures up memories of holidays, Summer, beaches, sunshine, coconut scented tanning lotion, the sound of the ocean, easy livin’.  I have several pairs; I even wear them indoors in the Winter months.

Fresh cherries.  These little babies are the perfect combination of sweet, pulpy, crunchy; nature’s candy.

My little black kittes. Coming home at the end of a work day and seeing my two mini panthers waiting on the other side of the door to greet me.  I love their names; Angus Mckitten and Pacino.  They make my heart smile.

Podcasts – oh my.  I wish I would have discovered them years ago.  They are a magnificent way to pass the time and to feed the brain.  My top five are Late Nite Last week with Mark Whitney (snippets of the best of late night shows), 10% Happier with Dan Harris (talks of the benefits of mediation. He is the news correspondent who had an anxiety driven meltdown on live tv.  Look it up on Youtube).  His book was very interesting, which led to following the podcast)  Laugh Out Loud from CBC radio (proof positive that comedy does not have to consist of the f-bomb every other word), Love Life with Matthew Hussey (this Brit is absolutely adorable and occasionally offers sound advice), Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids (no explanation needed and seriously funny stuff).  Let me know if any of you decide to check them out.

Luxurious shampoos.  My latest obsession is finding sulfate free products.  My most recent purchase was Scentuals 100% natural organic Grapefruit shampoo.  Smells heavenly!

Kayaking.  The comfort I feel when I step into a kayak is like nothing I’ve experienced before.  I love the water and navigating through it like this is a match made in heaven.

Last but not least – my blogging community! You all don’t know it, but I love hearing from you, your comments, and your posts.  It does a writer’s heart good to be able to connect with others who truly understand the need to write.

My goal in this was to inspire you to remember the little things in life that make you happy and to share if you so chose.   A big thank you to Laura from having spurred this on.
